Hello Ranchos group,
For many years I have been stuck at a impassable dead end. I pray that someone out there could possibly help me out.
It all began when I discovered the marriage record of two of my ancestors. Joseph Miguel Zaldivar (Saldivar) married María de los Dolores Jáuregui, in Nochistlán, Zacatecas, on 7 April 1777. The marriage document said that Joseph Miguel Saldivar was "hijo legítimo de Xavier Saldivar y de María Josepha González." Ma. de los Dolores Jáuregui was "hija legítima de Joseph Francisco de Jáuregui y de María Josepha Jiménez." My Jáuregui line is well documented, and I have had no major problems there.
The problem is with Xavier Saldivar and María Josepha González. I have found a few baptisms of their children in Jalostotitlán: Isidro Bonifacio Saldivar, bap. 28 May 1752; Segundo Pastor Saldivar, bap. 21 April 1754; María de los Dolores Saldivar, bap. 09 March 1760; and Bernardino Sinesio Saldivar, bap. 07 June 1761. But no marriage.
I have seen Xa
A very big thank you to Steven Hernandez for pointing us in the
direction of this website:
http://www.e-local.gob.mx/enciclo.html the actual home page is: http://www.e-local.gob.mx/
there is a lot of info on Mexico on this site but Zacatecas and
Aguascalientes doesn't seem to be represented on the list of states with
write-ups:
for Jalisco: http://www.e-local.gob.mx/enciclo/jalisco/ then click on Municipios for a list. for Chihuahua: http://www.e-local.gob.mx/enciclo/chihuahua/index.html then click on Municipios for a list.

Steven ; to say you answered my question is an
understatement, I can't believe you included a map. You are a very good writer and a great guy. I thank you very much. Jose L. Macias

Hello everyone,
I thought I should take some time to respond to some queries regarding whether or not Jamay, Jalisco, actually exists or if it has been abandoned. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jamay is a small but nice town overlooking Lake Chapala. It is between Ocotlán and La Barca along the Carretera Guadalajara-México,D.F. I have been there a few times. I remember climbing the steps with my mom, dad, brothers, aunt, and my "Abuelita Lupe" up to the church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe on top of a hill when I was 8 years old. I pass by there all the time whenever I go visit my family in Ocotlán. My mom was born in the town of Cuitzeo, just next door to Ocotlán (on the other side of the river). My grandfather was born in "El Xoconoxtle" northeast of Ocotlán. Both my mom and her dad were baptized in the parish church in Ocotlán. My mom has many fond memories of Ocotlán, Cuitzeo, Jamay, and La Barca where she and my grandparents visited frequently, and sometimes
http://www.expedia.com is a good place for Mexican maps. Also another good place for maps is in the "links" section. go to the home page: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ranchos
on the left side of the page is a bunch of areas of the group with
additional information.
look at the "files" look at the "links" look at the fotos "just me and
the wife in this area"
click on links click on the bottom link called "Maps of Mexico" go down the page to where it says "state maps" scroll down to Jalisco click on the map section that has the large lake on it. look next to Ocolotlan and you'll find Jamay. joseph
ps: if anyone at all is having trouble accessing the different links and
areas of the group let me know. We'll work on it together if you like.

Does any one know about a General named Pedro Zamora? He was a rebel General that fought with Emiliano Zapata in the southern part of Mexico. I would appreciate any information that any one has on this individual. Thank You, Angel R. Cervantes __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Friends; I keep seeing locations that are not Jalisco and presume that those locations are very close to Jalisco. I can't find "Jamay" Jalisco on a map, was it town that is now abandoned? I wonder, where is Rancho San Agustin ? How close are La Barca to Guadalagara ? The reason that I asked was because my Great-grandfather (Estavan Ramirez)was born in Portezuelo, Jalisco , married my Great- grandmother (Alvina Navaro)Born in San Agustin, Jalisco. My mom said that Estevan was a french soldier that changed his name from Dubois to Ramirez. He met and married Alvina(the foreman's daughter)while in hiding at San Agostin. My mother,Julia Ramirez was born to Estevan and Alvina's son Modesto Ramirez, in Guadalajara on 22 May 1908. My mother said that the records of my great-grandfather, Estevan are kept by a lady in "Chapulapec". I think there is a famous place called Chapultepec, but is it in Jalisco ? Is there a place in Jalisco by the same name ?How would a person check

Jon, Kitty Cortez was asking about finding Batch numbers and I thought of your above response. Can you give us a few more words on this? also would you care to comment on the LDS meaning in this response. I didn't exactly understand how this reply would help in getting batch numbers: "You can see the ordinance dates on the Internet International Genealogical Index IF you register AS A MEMBER of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Would you happen to know if there is a relation between batch numbers and ordinance dates? thanks, joseph

I have access to several of the microfilms covering marriages in Nochistlan -- from about 1736 to 1880. They are on permanent loan at my local LDS Family History Center. I would be happy to do "lookups" for anyone if you give me a date. I'm sorry that I don't have enough free time to just scroll through the films, but I have six children at home + a dog, 2 cats, 2 fish, etc. The films I have are: 0226734 1874 - 1880 0226733 1867 - 1874 0226732 1856 - 1866 0226731 1841 - 1855 0226730 1824 - 1841 0226729 1807 - 1824 0226728 1776 - 1807 0226727 1762 - 1779 0226726 1736 - 1762 ~Deena Ortiz~

Joseph: Should I send the names I think of to you directly or to the list. I sent one to the list earlier; I just thought of another. I have a feeling that that is how it will be with me -- a slow trickle. Anyway, another variation that I've come across is: Yrungaray interchanged with Nungaray. Also, Flores de Medrano shortened to just Medrano -- but sometimes Flores. Quiralte and Quirarte was both used; it appears that Quirarte was more common, but it was also spelled (or misspelled) other ways. It appears that Melendres was more common than Melendes in Nochistlan -- at least in my database. :-) ~Deena~

I've thought of another name variation -- particularly with the extracted records in the IGI database at familysearch.org: Yáñez with all its variant spellings can be found transcribed as Nanes. ~Deena Ortiz~
has anyone ordered any Census records for Villanueva, Zacatecas? If so
have you come across a Rancho by the name of "Rancho de los Negros?"
thanks, joseph
yes write the info down but also make copies from their film readers on the
more important ones or on all relatives if you can afford it. But if you
do this make absoluetly sure you write down the film number the volume number
the page number and record number if available for each record you copy.
In a few months or even years you'll be able to go back to the film so easy
with this info recorded.
but writing down the Ranchos is important is good as you will start familiarizing
yourself about exactly where your familia came from. Even on each film of
a specific area there can be many many many Ranchos that are referred to.
One day you'll be able to see the name of the Rancho and realize that the
probability of this person being a relative is much more likely because very
many of the folks living there were relatives.
I'm glad you are enjoying your hunting. . .it is so thrilling and such a
rush when you find a new relative.

okay so how come you all have been keeping the
1855 Colotlan area census a secret? I was thrilled when I found the 1817
Census awhile ago but am simply blown away by what i found in the 1855 Census.
Seems like "all, todos, or at least muchos" of the familia that I have
researched since this past August showed up on this film. If you have family
